Swindon Senior Games 2020
Inspired by a visit to the Glasgow Senior Games in 2019, Swindon Sports Forum in partnership with Swindon Borough Council and WASP developed the Wiltshire and Swindon Senior Games Programme.
The programme consists of competition between care homes within Wiltshire and Swindon which takes place around International Day for Older Persons in October.
The first Games took place in 2020, and saw more than 50 residents from 6 care homes across Swindon take part in 4 activities, with the team that accumulated the most points being crowned Senior Games Champions. The games were due to take place as an in-person event but Covid-19 meant that they took place virtually.
Each home received an activity pack of equipment and instructions to enable them to participate. To make the event complete, there was a torch relay and medals were awarded at the end of the event.
Guinness Care (Prince Rupert Court) took home the prize, becoming the first ever winners of the Senior Games in Swindon.
