Swindon Healthy Schools Programme

The Swindon Healthy Schools Programme supports schools to provide the best health related education, through promoting good health choices and recommending resources to enhance the PSHE programme and meet the needs of the OFSTED Health and wellbeing of young children's framework.
Schools are supported on an individual basis and in line with locally and nationally identified health priorities.
In order to gain and maintain Healthy School Status, your school is asked to complete an annual audit to identify what's working well and which areas may need improvement. Schools are encouraged to use their annual audit in conjunction with a School Development Plan. This will help to complete the checklist to gain or maintain recognition as a Healthy School at Bronze level. .
Alongside the annual audit schools are encouraged to take part in the New three tier award system and undertake a specific, focussed piece of work addressing Public Health needs and a local need that will support the wellbeing in your school. The new reward is designed to show how schools develop health and wellbeing progressively at each level of the award.
85% of Swindon schools are actively engaged in the programme - they have either achieved the healthy schools status or are in the process of completing it.
Wiltshire Healthy Schools Programme
The Wiltshire Healthy Schools Programme provides a framework for all Wiltshire schools to audit their current provision, identify areas for development, implement new work and monitor their progress, including the impact for their children and young people.
The programme clarifies the actions all schools can take to promote the health and wellbeing of young people, from universal prevention and education to targeted interventions and treatment. The programme brings together good practice on all health related issues and provides consistent messages, encouraging and supporting schools to focus on approaches that are particularly effective.
Schools can opt to take part in Wiltshire Healthy Schools at three levels: Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Schools achieving the Wiltshire Healthy Schools Standards, listed here, are entitled to use the current Wiltshire programme logo and can be confident in their knowledge that they have set the foundation for best practise in Health Promotion throughout their setting. Following accreditation, the Wiltshire Healthy Schools approach enables schools to work towards further improving health behaviours of children and young people.
