Get Out Get Active (GOGA)

The ground-breaking GOGA programme began in 2016, and was created to bring disabled and non-disabled people together to be active. It aims to engage the least active communities in fun, inclusive ways. Now it is set to continue until at least 2023.

GOGA is about more than being active. It strengthens community spirit, increases confidence and improves mental health. It increases the demand for, and the accessibility of, activities. These may be provided by local authorities, sports clubs or the voluntary sector. Success is achieved through tapping into people's real life motivations to be physically active.

Our Role

Here at WASP, we will be using our local knowledge to deliver GOGA activities across Wiltshire. The activities here will include Fitness & Friendship clubs, seated exercise indoor programmes, Tai Chi, Boccia, Volleyball and New Age Kurling. We are also very keen to offer activities that participants suggest and will offer to support training to new volunteers engaged across our projects.

Steve Neale (Operations Director, WASP) said:

"We are delighted to be chosen to deliver GOGA in Wiltshire working in collaboration with key local partners. Through this Partnership we will provide an exciting mix of opportunities to support disabled and non-disabled people enjoying being 'Active Together'. Our inclusive projects will inspire and support new volunteers and coaches and will engage local community organisations to provide new opportunities for people of all ages and abilities."

Wiltshire partners will provide a unique focus between isolated rural communities surrounding Salisbury and the growing military and ex-military population in the area. Work will directly address the mental health impact of loneliness and social isolation in the area.

We recognise the majority of participants we'll be working with may suffer from long term health conditions and so to support the work we already plan to do we will largely be using the resources of the We Are Undefeatable campaign.
