Active Communities Programme

Our Active Communities Programme (ACP) is aimed at helping more inactive and less active people to become active more regularly. It will seek to help eligible clubs and community organisations set up regular activities either linked to existing clubs or sessions, or to help create brand new community organisations delivering unique opportunities within the area.

Within the 'Uniting the Movement' Strategy Sport England have provided Active Partnerships the opportunity to identify and help address local inequalities in participation. Together we are targeting 5 big issues:

  • Recover and Reinvent
  • Connecting Communities
  • Positive Experiences for Children and Young people
  • Connecting with health and wellbeing
  • Active environments

Since 2013 the Sport England Satellite Club Programme has successfully helped thousands of young people 11-19 get active across Wiltshire and Swindon. Our ACP builds on insight, lessons learnt and ways of working throughout delivery of this, taking the most effective parts and opening-up new opportunities to work with a wider range of partners to address inactivity and inequality of opportunity to get active.

Target Groups

The programme will be targeted at people over the age of 5 with no upper age limit. The core audience among this being inactive or generally less active on a regular basis. Project ideas aimed at targeting Sport England target groups will be prioritised, including but not exclusively:

  • Women and Girls
  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups
  • Disadvantaged Communities (low socio-economic status)
  • Disability groups (both physical and mental)
  • Other groups traditionally disadvantaged within sport and physical activity
  • Where there is evidence of demand for new activity

Use of Funding

Organisations will be able to use funding to develop and sustain new projects with eligible spend including:

  • Coaching
  • Facility Hire
  • Marketing
  • Equipment
  • Coaching/Instructing Qualifications

This list is not exclusive and all spend must meet National Lottery Criteria.

There is no limit on the amount of funding that can be applied for but projects are likely to range between £200 to £1,500

The girls section has really taken root in the club with some amazing uptake across school and club activity.
