Amy Ryan's Story
Amy Ryan coaches coaches gymnastics to participants ranging in age from pre-schoolers through to teenagers through Wiltshire Council’s Gymnastics School programme at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre and Tidworth Leisure Centre. She started work in this role in September 2018.
Having loved gymnastics herself as a child, she now enjoys seeing children experience the same sense of achievement when they master something that they didn't think they could do. She feels a great sense of pride when her groups pass their proficiency badges that she helped them to learn the movements accurately and develop strength and confidence.
Amy finds that using her initiative is a key skill. She has to be able to quickly assess what support each individual needs and to adapt the equipment or coaching. Knowledge of progressions is also important so she can move the gymnast on to their next step to give them a new challenge to work on. She hopes to do the Level 2 Gymnastics course in the future to increase her knowledge and skills further.
