Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

Where can I get support to encourage parents to complete the survey?

Sport England have produced a guide for schools relating to parent surveys, and template letters to parents which you can adapt to send to parents.

These can be found on our 'Active Lives Survey Resources' page by clicking here.

Where do I find the link to complete the survey?

WASP will send you individual URL links to access the survey. Each URL is unique to each class.

I am a teacher, what kind of questions will I be asked?

The teacher survey provides context for pupils' responses and reduces the need to ask children questions that can be answered once by a teacher, e.g. questions that are common to the school. Answers will be included in the School Report and used to generate a Healthy Schools Rating.

Sport England have produced an example questionnaire to give teachers an idea of the types of questions they may expect when completing a survey. You can access this by clicking here.

What types of questions will parents be asked?

The teacher questionnaire is designed to gather information about the sports and physical activities children take part in, both in and out of school.

Example questions can be found on our Active Lives Resources page.

What types of questions will pupils be asked?

The survey asks questions which cover measures of children's activity levels, physical literacy, swimming proficiency, well-being, self-efficacy, and levels of social trust.

Sport England have produced some example questionnaires to show what types of questions may be asked. These are accessible through our Active Lives Resources page.

How do I take the survey and how long will it take?

All surveys can be completed on a laptop, desktop computer, smartphone or tablet that has access to the internet. All surveys take 15-20 minutes to complete. Pupil surveys can be completed during the school day at a time most convenient, or at home, in one sitting only. If teachers are unable to complete the teacher survey in one sitting, their answers will be saved until the next time they log in.

My school hasn't been selected to take part, can we still participate?

If your school has not been selected to take part but would like to participate, please contact molly@wiltssport.org

When will my school receive our School Report?

School reports will be sent out (by Ipsos MORI) direct to the school the term following completion of the survey, just before half term. Sport England will send out small school reports directly to schools, the term after completion of the survey.
