Dame Kelly Holmes Trust: Go Event 2019
What an amazing few weeks we have had on the second Dame Kelly Holmes Trust 'Get on Track' youth volunteering programme this Easter holidays. The programme started with a residential at Oxenwood where participants gained their Emergency First Aid certificate, developed leadership skills by completing a night hike, mountain biking, rifle shooting and problem solving and attended the England v Spain woman's world cup warm-up match at Swindon Town FC.
Following the residential course, the participants have completed safeguarding training in preparation to complete their day Sports Leaders qualification where they delivered a sports and games session to our 10-13 young carers group at Devizes School. They also supported the annual May Mile fundraising event as part of a social action project which saw the group putting some of their newly learnt food hygiene skills to good use volunteering on the food stalls... a number of the group ran as well in the to help fundraise for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity.
What an incredible group of young people that have pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, developed confidence, life skills and friendships that will last long beyond this programme. A huge thanks to Youth Action Wiltshire, the Athlete mentors Rich Parker and Liz Johnson and Blagrave Trust who have helped make this all possible.
This fantastic video of the journey taken by our 2019 Wiltshire cohort was screened at the Go event in May 2019 to celebrate all they have achieved through the programme:
