Swindon Sports Forum Sports Awards 2015

Swindon Sports Forum 1This autumn the Swindon Sports Forum will celebrate Swindon sports finest with its first Sports Awards.

The Awards evening, which will take place at the County Ground on the 19th November, will recognise the contributions of clubs, athletes, volunteers and officials who play their part in the Swindon Sports Community.

Dave Bell, Chair of the Sports Forum said “This is great opportunity for clubs to say thank you to their volunteers, without whom sport in Swindon simply wouldn’t happen.We as a Forum also want to achknowledge their efforts and the contribution they make” There are 11 categories in the Awards including Coach, Club and Team of the Year, Sports Personality and Unsung Hero.

Nominations for the Awards can be made via the online form on this page below the full listing of Categories and Criteria. The closing dates for nominations is the 16 October 2015.

Category

Description

Sports Personality of the Year

The Swindon sportsperson who has excelled and/or exceeded all expectations in their performances over the last 12 months
  • Examples of regional, national and international competitions entered
  • Examples of coaching/leadership and ‘putting something back’ into
  • Examples of acting as a role model to club members and the community

Young Sports Personality of the Year

16 and below on 31st December, 2015

The young Swindon sportsperson who has excelled and/or exceeded all expectations in their performances over the last 12 months.
  • Example of Regional, National and international competitions entered with placing
  • Examples of potential ability in chosen sport
  • Examples of acting as a role model to younger club members

Sports Personality of the Year (Disability)

The Swindon sportsperson with a learning and/or physical disability who has excelled and/or exceeded all expectations in their performances over the last 12 months.
  • Examples of regional, national and international competitions entered
  • Examples of coaching/leadership and ‘putting something back’ into
  • Examples of acting as a role model to club members and the community

Unsung Hero of the Year

The Swindon volunteer that has contributed most significantly to sport.Examples of the individuals commitment to sport as either an athlete, coach, official, committee member, or a combination, at club, county, or other level over the last 5 years
  • Evidence of length of involvement in their chosen sport/s
  • Examples of what singles out this individual
  • Must be a volunteer who receives no financial reward for services

Long Service to Sport Award

The Swindon volunteer that has contributed most significantly to sport over many years. Examples of the individuals commitment to sport as either an athlete, coach, official, committee member, or a combination, at club, county, or other level over the nominee’s lifetime.
  • Evidence of length of involvement in their chosen sport/s
  • Examples of what singles out this individual
  • Must be a volunteer who receives no financial reward for services

Young Volunteer of the Year

NB: 18 and under on 31st December 2015.

The young Swindon volunteer that has contributed most significantly to sport within Swindon over the last 12 months
  • Examples of supporting qualified coaches and officials in the delivery of
  • Examples of assisting with club organisation
  • Examples of acting as a role model to younger club members
  • The Young Volunteer is not required to have any formal sports qualifications

Coach of the Year (Voluntary)

This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a coach who is delivering coaching sessions in Swindon to enable more people to participate in sport through high quality coaching in a voluntary capacity.
  • Minimum of a Level 2 coaching qualification
  • Evidence of impact that the coach has had on widening access to sport
  • Evidence of working within a specific community, or low participation
  • Example of a key project and the numbers that were involved in the project

Inclusion Coach of the Year

This award recognises the coach who is delivering coaching sessions in Swindon that has had the most impact upon disability sport, through coaching in a voluntary capacity.
  • Minimum of a Level 2 coaching qualification
  • Evidence of the impact that the coach has had on widening access to
  • Examples of a key project and the numbers that were involved in the
  • Examples of innovative practice sport for people with a learning and/or physical disability Project

Young Coach of the Year

NB 25 and under on the 31st December 2015.

This award recognises the important work through his or her coaching achievements to date carried out by an up-and-coming coach delivering coaching sessions in Swindon.
  • Evidence of determination to develop as a coach
  • Evidence of the provision of opportunities and support to participants
  • Examples of qualifications and professional development undertaken
  • Example of a key project they have been involved in.

Sports Club of the Year

The Swindon club that has delivered high quality sport throughout the year, and provided an outstanding sporting environment
  • Evidence of the way that the club supports volunteers/coach/official
  • Evidence of the development of player pathways
  • Examples of club-school/college links
  • Examples of community engagement including working with Local
  • Examples of utilising innovative ideas/projects in the way that the club
  • Working towards Clubmark Accreditation, or already a Clubmark club
  • Affiliated to relevant NGB
  • Examples of opportunities on offer for people with a disability
  • Examples of innovative approaches to inclusion
  • Evidence of number of people with a disability participating development 
  • Authority programmes, other community groups or charities operates, develops, or encourages participation

Sports Team of the Year

The Swindon sports team (Junior or Senior) that has achieved success within their sport over the last 12 months. Nominations will be accepted from teams based in sports clubs, school or colleges.
  • Evidence of success in winning their league
  • Evidence of winning promotion in their league
  • Evidence of success at a National, Regional or County level
