About Sailing

SailingSailing is the sport of controlling a boat with large, fabric sails, using the force of the wind to direct the boat and increase speed.

In competitive sailing, boats are raced around buoys or similar marks, or sometimes crossing open water. While buoy races are often quite short, anything from a few minutes to a few hours in length, offshore racing often lasts for a minimum of a few hours, and the longest offshore races involve circumnavigation of the world!

The Royal Yachting Association is the recognised National Governing Body in Great Britain.
